The comment “I don’t want my images to look posed” is one that I frequently hear. If this is the case, then lifestyle photography is for you!
A lifestyle photography session captures milestones, moments, and events that happen in real life and provides you with photos that are anything but staged. Lifestyle photography images are ideal for every genre of photography because they capture your story exactly as it is at that particular moment. Action-packed details repeatedly bring your pictures to life. People are photographed in natural situations for lifestyle photography. It is frequently used to document everyday events like family get-togethers, trips, or impromptu outings. Lifestyle photography is distinct from portrait photography in that it is less focused on posing and formalities. Instead, lifestyle shoots strive to capture the subjects in a natural and authentic way.
The goal of a lifestyle session is to capture your family as it is, not simply when everyone is looking good for the camera and dressed neatly. Although settings will be set up so that we may freeze some of the memories you want to remember, lifestyle sessions involve very little posing. For instance, we might record your child getting dressed, reading a book to them, doing things around the house, baking a cake, or playing a board game whatever is authentic and important to your family. If it’s a newborn lifestyle session, we might get you lying down and admiring your new baby’s tiny toes and adorable features, or we might get you feeding, dressing, or putting him to sleep. I want you to consider the distinctive aspects of your family before the session and tell me what kinds of things you might like to freeze in time.
We might also just hang out on your bed with your family for a while. Although we frequently capture some of you sitting beautifully and looking into the camera, lifestyle photography is all about capturing those true and authentic interactions. What transpires when the children begin to jump on the bed? What happens when your young child enters for a cuddle? Simply be as calm as you can during your session. The goal is to be authentic rather than perfect.
No! Lifestyle is honest and real; thus, nothing has to be perfect. You don’t have to go overboard, but I would advise some decluttering and a simple clean. You don’t want to be stressed about everything looking flawless, especially if you have a newborn! All I need is a space and a clear wall, and we are ready to go.
In terms of lifestyle, authenticity and sincerity are key. There is no need to go shopping for new clothes, though it never hurts to have an excuse. Wear the relaxed, comfortable clothing you already have in your closet. There is no need to overdress; however, keep in mind to avoid logos and luminous colors. Having said that, refrain from your unattractive or oldest workout attire that you might often wear on the weekend when lounging around the home! A decent pullover and jeans look lovely and natural with hair pulled back loosely, and they strike a wonderful balance between being too casual and overdressed.
If you have kids, you might want to let them pick out their own clothes so they feel like they can express their own individuality. Let them, for instance, wear their tutu and tiara if they so like! It perfectly captures who they are right now! You could wish to limit their options so that they must choose something you have already authorized.
Sessions focused on lifestyle often last 1-2 hours. If there are specific activities you really want to document but they only happen at specific times of the day (like putting your child to sleep), please let me know so we can try to schedule the session at a time that works for you. Many tasks can be rearranged to be completed when you wouldn’t ordinarily (for example, baking pancakes for lunch rather than breakfast or dressing your child in pajamas in the middle of the day), but some do require very precise timing.
